Footwear fashions are evolving for spring/summer 2017. Instead of over-embellished, consider clean and unadorned. Instead of granola casual, think about adding comfort chic and steer towards more tailored-looking footwear. And last but not least, get dressed up again in high, sexy heels. Here is our list of shoe silhouettes to add to your shoe wardrobe next spring, not in order of importance, but in order of delivery cycles.
MULES & SLIDES
Segueing from this season into next are open slides and mules. They can be in an understated city sandal mood on a block heel, or they can be flat and tailored, or be glamorous in metallic leathers on high stiletto heels.
Chunky little mid-high heels are the new kids on the block regardless whether they are on closed up pumps or open toe sandals.
SEXY HIGH HEELS
The ultimate feminine, sexy high heel shoe will never really go out of style. New bright shades and interesting colour combinations will be the new season update.
An ideal career shoe option for summer is the “city sandal”. These feature wide bands over the instep, and substantial stacked heels can range from low, to mid to high.
Want to be tall? Go for really big, fat platform sandals! They provide extra inches without sacrificing walking stability….and they can be in colourful fabrics too for an ultimate summer fun look.
Moccasins, monk straps, kilties and tassels are forever classic shoe designs. Updated versions will feature lightweight bottoms or ripple soles. Note that white shoe bottoms have finally arrived en masse.
The low ankle boot silhouette is not going away any time soon! Western allusions via the last or the upper stitching remain a constant, but opened up bootie versions are newer. Heels can flat, mid-high blocks, or high stacks.
High wedges adapt to the trends of the season. They can be nautical/club inspired, the can reflect artisan handy crafts, and as the season progresses they could become garden floral friendly or ethnic casual.
The traditional espadrille has come a long way! The woven or braided straw/raffia/hemp soles get bolder, and the upper styling can be anything, from fishermen t-sandals to modern mesh sneakers.
Some people just love their clogs! Newer is a high heel denim sling back version or a flatform sandal featuring a bottom made of different shades of wood.
Ideal for a Mediterranean island holiday are simple single sole sandals inspired by the ancients. Ankle straps and wraps hold barely there thongs in place.
