Comfort brands have captured the light and effervescence of the new season with casual styles decked out in metallic. At FFANY Aug. 2-4, brands showcased the newest interpretations of metallic footwear—an overall look that was softer and sweeter than previous seasons.
Gabor and Summit both offset soothing shades of gray and tan with ribbons of silver and pewter that artistically crisscrossed across ballet flats and trendy slides. Gabor carried its silver story into a range of slip-on sneakers and footbed sandals, some with an iridescent shimmer that created a chain-mail effect. Others were popped with touches of cork and athletic-inspired white outsoles.
Waldlaufer offered its own version of the footbed sandal refreshed with embossed leather uppers in toned down shades of metallic gold and silvery-white. The sandals complemented the brand’s range of white sneakers, rose and silver brogues and glittery pale pink walking shoes.
Wonders amplified rose gold. The Spanish brand paired the pink metallic with hologram-like materials and with chunky white unit bottoms. Warm shades of pink and gold metallic were carried into a line of fisherman sandals and bowling-inspired shoes. Crackled leather softened the heavy metal look.
For an ultimate summer look, Toni Pons added a touch of Mediterranean character to metallics with traditional wedge espadrilles with shimmering textiles. Highlights included fish scale-like textures and an all-over leaf print set aglow with delicate gold and silver thread.
